Granite State Opera has several Community Outreach Initiatives. One of these is the Education Program that includes opera programs in schools. We also use local children in our choruses whenever possible, such as in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Carmen and The Barber of Seville.

Local performances in various communities will help develop an affinity with Granite State Opera. These concerts will also introduce and reinforce the beauty of opera in a friendly, accessible way to adults and children alike. We have already developed many loyal followers, and we endeavor to continue building our subscriber base and our audience.

Opera is for everybody!
Opera can be funny, sad, scary, romantic, or all of the above! In our 45-minute Intro to Opera performance, we will introduce your students to some of opera's most famous characters—singing some of opera's most famous music.

Two singers and a pianist from Granite State Opera, New Hampshire's premiere opera company, will present selections in English from famous operas.

Some of the characters you will meet might include a clown, a pair of cats, a New Hampshire hero, country folks, or pirates!

Workshops and Performances
We offer a variety of workshop and performance options to fit any age group and schedule.

Is your high school drama club or chorus rehearsing a musical? Take advantage of our Performing Workshop. Your students will learn about the techniques and advantages of healthy singing, and have the opportunity to ask our opera singers.

For a more in-depth look at opera, consider our Opera Scenes Workshop. In one week, your students will learn, rehearse, and perform scenes from real operas. It's an exciting way to learn about this unique art form.

Perform an Opera in Your School!
There is no better way to learn about opera than by performing in one. If you so choose, Granite State Opera will produce and direct a fully-fledged opera starring your very own students—and no, we won't make anyone wear the hat with the horns on it!

Will it be too difficult? No. There are lots of real operas, in English, that can be performed by junior high or high school students, and there are even some which contain many roles appropriate for elementary school students.
